Westward Ho!
Westward Ho! was named after the book of the same name written by Charles Kingsley in 1855 and is the only place in Britain that has an exclamation mark in its name.
Located on the stunning North Devon coast at the heart of the North Devon Area of Oustanding Natural Beauty, Westward Ho! has been a popular holiday destination since Victorian times. And thanks to the two miles of sandy beach here known as the Golden Bay, families still flock here for traditional beach holidays. The beach is host to a wide range of watersports including surfing, canoeing, windsurfing and kitesurfing.
Westward Ho! itself has plenty of cafes, restaurants and pubs for dining out plus a wide selection of shops for a bit of retail therapy. The town also retains many traditional seaside attractions such as amusement arcades, putting greens, playground and beach shops.
The famous North Devon Golf Course, the oldest golf course in England and Wales is situated here if you fancy heading for the greens. And if you enjoy cycling or walking the South West Coastal Path runs through Westward Ho! and the Tarka Trail is close by.
Venturing further afield there are a number of popular local attractions close by including The Milky Way Adventure Park, The Big Sheep and Hartland Abbey and Gardens.
The traditional fishing village of Appledore and elegant Instow are also nearby and make great bases for a North Devon holiday. Charming Bideford is also on the doorstep and is the jumping off point for day trips to Lundy Island.
